Bunk Bed

The kids are enjoying their new bunkbed. With daddy needing a home office to work from the kids were eager to share a room. Matthew was more than willing to stay up past his bed time to help daddy put the beds together, although he did fall asleep half way through the project.

Close

Matthew has proved to be challenge when it comes to potty training. He knows what to do but he gets so involved in whatever he is doing that it is usually just a bit to late. He is getting much better and very excited each time he completes his task successfully. He does insist on changing his underwear and pants each time he uses the bathroom. We think it is because he used to get a new diaper each time in the past. As you can tell by the pictures he has become quite talented. At least he can stand like daddy.

Taj's 5th Birthday

The kids were ready and waiting to head to Salmon Creek Park in Washington to celebrate their cousin Taj's 5th birthday. The kids took full advantage of the cake and cookies available. The slowly inched their way into the water and before long they were soaked head to toe. The kids would say the "accidentally" got wet. Matthew learned very quickly that sand in the pants is not a good thing.

Camping

Brooklyn and Matthew were recently given the opportunity to go camping for a few nights while mommy and daddy were given a mini vacation. Mommy and daddy joined the kids for a few hours one of the days to share in the adventure. The kids were camped out on a small island on the Clackamas River. They had a great time and have not stopped talking about the boat ride to the island.

Cooling Down

With the recent 100+ degree heat wave that hit the Portland area the kids decided to take advantage of the community wading pool. They always enjoy the water and this day was no exception. It makes the rest of us want to be in a little better shape so we can join them.

Potty Training Followed By A Nap

Potty training is always a unique adventure for parents. We got lucky with Brooklyn who managed to potty train herself. Matthew has been more of a challenge because he gets so involved with his playing activities that he does not take a break to use the restroom. Well he is improving and he was calling for me the other day to share with his recent accomplishment. He takes his potty time very seriously. In the meantime Brooklyn was showing her excitement in a different way.

The Kids Try Bowling

As summer approached I began to get that summer vacation itch. This is the first summer since 1988 that I do not have a official summer break. I called in sick to work and decided it was time to stomp the kids at bowling. They absolutely loved it. Brookyln was able to toss the 6 lb. ball without too much trouble. Each time it was like a scene from the movie Uncle Buck. There were a few tried where the ball just stopped. Matthew displayed his independent attitude yet again. he did not want any help with any aspect of his game. I had to sneak a little tap on the ball to ensure it made it to the pins. The kids enjoyed themselves but I think they enjoyed to french fries a little more.

Off To The Coast

It was a last minute decision but the kids got a special weekend at the Oregon Coast. We found a hotel and head out. The kids had a great car ride thanks to the portable DVD player. If you have kids and do not have a portable DVD player I highly recommend one for the long car rides. Where were those when I was smashed in the back of a seven passenger station wagon. The kids really took to the water even with the water temperature being just above freezing. I think the kids had more fun in the hotel rooms. After a successful first night we decided to change hotels and found a great deal. We booked a room online and were upgraded to an ocean view because our room was not ready. Early check in is the key for free upgrades. I was also very proud of Matthew as he took another step towards manhood. He told me he had to go to the bathroom but all the stalls at the store were occupied. We only had the stand up options available. I am proud to say that my son has learned how to stand when using the restroom. Sorry there will be no pictures of this monumental moment. All in all it turned out to be a great weekend. I love watching the kids smile when the experience new things. They really appreciate all the little things.
